Notes:

  • State knowledge and skills testing in the area of Social Science is required at grades 5, 8, and 10.
  • State tests may be taken through TESA or paper/pencil testing.
  • Although work samples are not required to meet state standards in Social Science during the 2004 - 2005 school year, work samples can be scored using the official state scoring guide.
  • The social science analysis scoring guide consists of the following four dimensions:
    • Frame (Frame the Event, Issue, or Problem)
    • Research (Collect and Compare)
    • Examine (Analyze)
    • Conclude (Justify)

  • In the 2005 - 2006 school year, work sample requirements will be added to the overall performance criteria for social science. For the 2005 - 2006 school year, the following performance standards will apply to social science analysis work samples.

Notes -- * Work sample administration and scoring are solely for instructional focus. Meeting work samples are not required at this benchmark level. • Meeting scores on "Framing" and "Concluding" must be from the same work sample. • Meeting scores on "Framing" and "Concluding" must be from the same work sample.
  • Teachers are expected to provide instruction and classroom assessment in all four dimensions of the scoring guide, however will only be required to have meeting or exceeding scores in the required dimensions listed in the chart above.
  • All students in grades 6 through 8 and at the CIM level will be required to complete a classroom work sample, scored against the criteria of the state scoring guide, in social science analysis during each school year.
