Oregon Authors Project |
To use this site, you should be familiar with how your Web browser works, specifically how it prints out a Web page and how hyperlinks function. If you have problems with these features, we suggest you visit the Web navigation page in the Just In Time Training section of the OPEN site for a "just-in-time" refresher course. We strongly suggest that you read through the navigation page as well as the Oregon Authors Introduction page to familiarize yourself with this project.

The first step in using a story from the Oregon Authors Project is to pick a story. The stories are presented in a pull-down list on the home page, with the title of the first one displayed. Click the down arrow at the right of the title box to see the full list. With the list expanded, click once on the story you want so that its title is highlighted and appears in the box. Then click the Story button (left-click on Windows machines) to select the story. This will take you to the story's main page. Print the story by using your browser's Print command--click the printer icon at the top of the browser window or choose Print from the browser's File menu. Make copies of the story for each student to use. |

Each story task includes questions that were written by teachers who attended reading training through the Literacy Partnership. At the end of each story, there is a link to the assessment questions for that specific story. Click on this link and, again, print out the page. Make as many copies as you need for each student. |

If you have the Adobe Acrobat browser plug-in or the Acrobat Reader application (available free from Adobe Systems or the OPEN Web site), you can download the complete package containing the story and questions. This will provide you with a formatted, high-resolution version that you can make your copies from. |

Any input that classroom teachers can provide about the tasks will be used to refine these questions. A feedback form is provided for your comments, linked from the top of each story page, just below the title graphic. After filling in the form, simply click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the form page to send your comments to us. After submission, you will be returned to the story's main page. |
Note: To facilitate navigation throughout the Oregon Authors Project site, the top of each page has a series of links that will assist you in the use of this resource. Here you can quickly return to the Oregon Authors home page as well as this page, the introduction, and the resource links page.
